Dr. Arulnathan is a registered civil and geotechnical engineer in California with over 25 years of experience in dam engineering, geotechnical engineering, soil-structure interaction, and seismic remediation for liquefaction. He is currently a design manager on a $2.5B new dam and ancillary facilities project. His contributions have been pivotal in projects encompassing more than 20 earth dams and over 1,000 miles of levees across California.Within the scope of dam projects, his responsibilities have spanned dam safety evaluations, planning, geologic and geotechnical investigations, design, and provision of construction support services for both replacement and new dams. Dr. Arulnathan has also led analyses related to surcharge and Tainter gates conditions, covering over 10 concrete dams for the Corps of Engineers. His expertise extends to conducting research on dynamic properties of peat and seismic performance of levees on peat. This diverse proficiency includes earthquake engineering and geotechnical studies, which have culminated in the publication of numerous technical papers in these domains. Beyond research, Dr. Arulnathan's engagement extends to serving on expert elicitation panels and contributing to board reviews for the California Department of Water Resources.
