Engineer C
City of Austin - Watershed Protection Department
Austin, Texas
Sergio Mendoza has been practicing civil engineering for over 28 years and hopes to perfect it someday. He has worked in federal, municipal and private sectors. Since 2018, he has assumed the responsibilities of the Dam Safety Engineer for the City of Austin’s Watershed Protection Department. Prior to that, he designed, reviewed and analyzed storm drain systems.
He began his university studies at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT before completing his degree in Civil Engineering at the California State University at Northridge. Go Matadors! Fascinating fact: he was a student at CSUN during the 1994 earthquake and does he have some tales to tell!
While attending Dam Safety 2022 in Baltimore, MD, he was introduced to a reporting app that he was able to employ in his annual inspections. It has taken a few iterations to produce a mobile tool that was easy to use.
Currently, he makes Central Texas home for him, his wife of 25 years and three adult children. He and his family enjoy board and card games. Exploding Kittens, anyone? He likes word games of all varieties. Every year he eagerly awaits the college football season and March Madness. He and his family relish the opportunity to travel. At the moment, he has traveled to 48 of the 50 states in the Union. Ask him which he has yet to visit. Next up, the 32 Mexican states. His dream is to attend the four major tennis tournaments: Australian Open, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open.
