Mr. Steve Snell, P.E. was recently appointed Engineering Chief for the National Dam Safety Program (NDSP) at FEMA. Previously he served eight years as a Regional Dam Safety Engineer for the State of Virginia where he was the principal in charge for over 1,000 dams, overseeing maintenance, construction, and emergency preparedness. Mr. Snell has an engineering degree from the University of Massachusetts. While attending school he worked as a fire fighter and did summer internships at flood control dams with the Army Corps of Engineers. After graduating he worked for private consultants for seven years in Pennsylvania doing surveying and structural engineering. He also spent time in Puerto Rico assessing hurricane damage as a contractor for FEMA. Mr. Snell worked for the City of Richmond Virginia as the Stormwater Program Manager and as the Assets Engineer overseeing the maintenance of large structures including bridges, floodwalls and dams. His leadership was instrumental in the creation of Richmond’s Stormwater Utility Division.
